How might the UI/UX reinforce the game’s conceptual themes of duality while seamlessly guiding the player in and out of gameplay?

OBJECTIVE

The Cursed Mountain is a PC game about two souls stuck in one body that journey to meet a witch who can undo their curse. The player switches between souls to overcome obstacles.

It explores duality and how opposite forces can be complementary and even interdependent to each other’s success.

PROBLEM

I identified a few problems from the original version that my team submitted for the 2022 Global Game Jam.

Inaccessible

Detached

The clunky and fixed UX and UI does not consider the 8-12 aged audience and the different skill level, strengths, and impediments they may have.

The UX and UI do not align with the game’s intended message of collaboration. The game can only be played solo and the UI’s visuals are not aligned with the aesthetics of the fantasy pixelated artwork.

FEATURED FINAL SCREENS

Typefaces are inconsistent with the pixelated artwork

Skewed orientation is unconventional, and unsettling to young users, limited space prevents adding more settings.
